Before I go on, allow me to introduce myself. I'm pretty much new here--I've read a few topics here and there but I just joined today...but hopefully I'm about to prove I'm a pretty big fan, heh.
(I'm going to have to split this up into four posts, so that I can post a link at the end. Sorry!)

OK, so here's the deal. I've modified an NES emulator called VirtualNES to play mp3s in place of Mega Man 2's regular soundtrack. Wherever possible, I used Megas mp3s (with one minor exception when you select a robot master), and the rest of the soundtrack is fleshed out with tracks by The Minibosses, 8-bit Instrumental, Project X, and injury.
In the interest of keeping this all legal, however, it's up to you to provide the Mega Man 2 rom and the Megas MP3's (using the naming scheme of the official digital copy you get when you buy the album...consider it an anti-piracy measure)...all of the other MP3's are freely available so I went ahead and included them.

(Link is included in next post.)
Included are the emulator and related files, all non-Megas MP3's, and a program that patches your Mega Man 2 rom to mute all of the original music.
Before I go on, I'm not responsible for any damages, blah blah blah...you know, it's in the readme.
Anyway, once you've extracted all of the files, to set everything up (you can also refer to all of this in the readme):
1. Copy all of your "Get Equipped" MP3's into root:\mm2\, where root is
the drive letter of your hard drive.
2. Extract and/or copy the included MP3s into the \mm2 folder.
3. Run MM2patcher.exe.
4. Under "File to patch," browse to your Mega Man 2 (U) rom. This must be a ".nes" file, and not a zip or other archive.
5. Click "Patch" to apply the rom patch. If MM2patcher's status then changes to "[ERROR] Cannot find file to patch." you probably have a bad dump of Mega Man 2 (U). Find another version of the rom and you should be fine.
6. Open up VirtualNES and load the rom!
NOTE: fmod.dll and English.vlp MUST be in the same folder as VirtualNES.
Get equipped with rock!
[EDIT]
Good news, everyone! I was feeling froggy and decided to hack the executable of the emulator (since my code is still gone) and I managed to get "A Message From Dr. Light" working. Even better, I can switch out any of the songs at will using the same method.
So:
A) http://www.mediafire.com/file/mfnwdj2oo ... NESMM2.rar
Here's the emulator working with Get Equipped + Message
and B) keep an eye out for VirtuaNes MM2 Acoustic edition once the new album's out, since that'll take maybe a couple of hours, tops

I'll see what I can do...the emulator has a built in video capture utility, but it won't actually play back the MP3's because of the way they're being played. I'll have to either edit them in later (almost feels like cheating, haha) or I'll have to find a video capture program and try that out.

All right, I did a quick video cap a few minutes ago and posted it on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/v/MVXXtkkWByo
As I'm posting this, it's still processing, but I'm guessing that it should be up by the time anybody reads this.
The video isn't a great sample of the emulator because the video capture software creates some latency and some sync issues, but it should be enough to get the general idea.
Oh, and I play terribly throughout the video. I'm blaming it on the lag from the capture software, and no one better say differently *shakes fist*.

How I have to rename the Get Equipped mp3s? I bet it doesnt recognise the songs if theyre named like "The Megas - Carved from Mighty Oak.mp3".

Actually, Reyde, it's designed so that you don't have to rename anything. Because everyone who bought the Megas CD should have the same digital copy, I was able to work with the assumption that everyone will have MP3s with the same names.
Anyway, thanks for all the feedback so far--I'm happy to see that it's working for everyone.

I have only the CD version of the album, which I just got in mail. I have ripped the songs to computer in MP3 file format, so I could use them with this game. So I really would need exact names that I should give to the mp3 files, that would be very much appreciated. Without them, anyone who has only CD version can't get their music in game.

Hmm...well, here's a pic with all the filenames of the MP3's. Hopefully your ripped MP3's end up being pretty much identical, or they may not loop at quite the right times in the song.
