I've had this conversation with GM before, so I know what he's trying to say.
It just seems weird to find out that a new poster has been lurking (a few days is nothing, but the people who come out to say they've been doing it for X months/years are the ones I'm referring to).
Apart from the occasional Mega-sanctioned thread in the Megas Discussion section, there's really not a lot of official news or important info posted here. Especially not in the majority of our topics. We're not a big forum with important, or super active topics, we're a bunch of d-bags and a-hats making fun of each other and having debate wars about our opinions on trivial subjects.
That said, lurking around a forum like that is rather similar to eavesdropping on a conversation the cool kids are having at a local party. Heaven forbid you introduce yourself or join in... it's just a bit awkward (if not downright creepy) to think that there are people just lurking around listening to us goof off and fight with each other for extended periods of time. It just makes me wonder... what is the point?
Again, this is not really directed at you, Cobbles. I understand your reasons and they make perfect sense to me. But I figured this was a point worth elaborating upon.
Personally, I don't really mind if people WANT to lurk... I'm not ashamed of what goes on here or anything. But I can't help but wonder why people do it. If you're really hanging around this place for that long and STILL have no interest in contributing... how in the hell do you muster enough interest in US to keep you coming back?

I imagine lurking the Megaforum is something like watching a train wreck.

I honestly wasn't lurking very long. I made an account and then forgot about the site for apparently seven days, and really only read through the MM3 album hype thread the day after. Then I joined.

Honestly, I almost see it as a compliment when I find out someone has been lurking. It means we're interesting enough that people feel like reading what we have to say.

Yeah, but a lot of them don't even stay that long. They come and announce that they've been lurking, then go back to lurking or whatever. That's pretty weird.
