Maybe in the original GSC, when the Lance, the Champion's, highest level pokemon is 50, compared to Lorelei, the FIRST E4 member, from RBY whose lowest is like 52.

Gengar and Electabuzz are the best, they're like the badasses that are slightly past their prime, so they're all fat and shit, but they don't give a fuck because they'll still wreck your shit.

Gengar especially got a boost with no more of that ass backwards "Ghost type moves are Physical type moves".

Aw man! They nerfed the Abra line. I can't teach my Kadabra any of the elemental punches anymore D:

They're terrible moves on Alakazam, anyway.

For a competitive team, maybe. But in-game, that kind of versatility with his speed/special is a game-winner. With a moveset like that + Psychic, he can handle most of the game all by himself.

Just use a different Pokemon that learns the punches. I know Hitmonchan can have all 3, I'm pretty sure there are other ones too.

Well, the whole point was mixing them with Alakazam's crazy-ass stats, plus having Psychic to cover the bases.
But Box is right, they changed the way those moves work anyway. I guess that's how they justify re-making the same basic game over and over again, by changing all the things you thought you knew about old pokemon and their moves. KEEPS YOU ON YOUR TOES.

They changed it for the better. No more "ALL FIRE MOVES ARE SPECIAL ETC." bullshit.
Some Pokemon are actually usable now.

Some got beefed, some got nerfed, the games are still unbalanced and always will be. lol
New gripe: My number one biggest complaint about the Pokemon games is the fact that so few of the Pokemon are worth using, especially end-game, and how the few that are are either hard to find or don't show up until mid -to-late-game. (Or worse, they show up mid-game at low levels, so you have to spend a couple hours playing catch-up)
I had this conversation with JT today. I hate wasting time training Pokemon I'm not gonna use for my final team, and yet I also hate walking through the first three gyms with only two or three Pokemon on my belt because I haven't run across anything decent.

When the hell were Ghost moves ever Physical?
Also, Fox was saying the Abra family got nerfed in Gen 4 because of the Physical-Special Split. In 1-3 it could wreck shit up with the Elemental Punches because they were based on Special/Sp. Atk.
Alakazam's movepool is severely limited because of that, but it's still a force to be reckoned with in-game.
Hitmonchan was one of the pokemon who GREATLY benefited from the Split, because the Elemental Punches were worthless with him.
I don't mind so much waiting to catch the good Pokes till later in the game, but that's because I get super into these games and pre-plan everything so I can minimize wasted EXP and whatnot.
To be fair though, some Pokes you can catch early on are good, like Staraptor and Crobat.

The most pre planning I do is deciding if I'm gonna use pokemon I like, or pokemon I've never raised or used before that look cool.
