The fun of Metroid games, for me, isn't the constant upgrades but the exploration. The upgrades just open up new areas for you.

LEARN TO FUCKING METROID.

Are you kidding? It's not that I'm fucking astounded by the locations, it's finding shit like Energy Tanks and Missile Tanks and shortcuts and secret rooms and shit. Dear lord. It's not "Ooh, I like this area. Yep, there's plenty of lava down here" it's "Oooh, a speed boost block. I wonder if there's more? Yep a whole line! I wonder how I'm supposed to line this jump up right? Oh I see I have to get the boost, use it, stop at the door, open the door, run back down, morph ball, then jump through the door and wow I got Super Missiles early!"

I consider the missile tanks part of the whole "upgrade" experience, but I get what you mean. It's just rewarding.

I just like having lots of abilities because it makes the general experience of platforming and running around more enjoyable when you have a variety of techniques.

I like learning the little tricks and stuff so I can get around without things like space jump if I master wall jump and bomb jump.

Replay value, for me, is infinite, which is why it's my favorite game series up there with Mega Man and Castlevania. All games I replay over and over again. I'm getting a Samus and Simon Belmont tattoo somewhere to go with my Mega Man.

I prefer (post Symphony) Castlevania to Metroid because the levels are usually larger and the character movement and abilities are more fluid. It has more replay value to me because I don't mind running around mindlessly killing enemies because the gameplay mechanics make it so fun. It also has about the same level of secret hunting and constantly rewarding upgrades.

Metroid has always felt just a little clunkier (again, in comparison to the NEWER CV games), so it usually doesn't hook me as much.

All this talk of Zero Mission inspired me to replay the Zero Suit stealth part of it. That and the part after that are the highlights of the game for me. That moment when you get your super powered up suit and are able to tear through the enemies you used to be running from... so awesome.

So you like the part when you're suitless because you get the suit at the end?

I mean, it adds some nice variety to the game, but it's probably my least favorite part of Zero Mission.

I kinda like the strategy involved in stunning the enemies, hiding, running away, and finding ways around the space pirates. Also, a big part of the fun of Metroid is going from a weakling at the beginning of the game to an unstoppable beast at the end, and going from Zero Suit to SUPER POWERED ZOMG GREATNESS suit kinda encapsulates that experience.

It was pretty fun the first time, but I've done it about 20 times now. That's the part of the game where if I want to explore again, I have to move slowly from point A to point B first and get my new suit.

To me, Metroid is all about the sequence breaks and speed runs. This is why I prefer Zero Mission most of all, aside from Super Metroid.

Also, the ZSS part of Zero Mission is radically annoying. It's slow and boring.
