And I may not be religious, but if we all evolved from unicellular organisms, where did they come from?

The question "why" is a stupid one, in that it can be asked indefinitely. There IS no all-encompassing explanation for anything.
Even using God as a cop-out, as so many people do, the question why can be applied to his existence, purpose, motivations as well.
The only important question in this scenario is "how", and the short answer is: We aren't all-knowing. We don't know yet, and it's possible are minds are so limited that we may never. Deal with it. It is humanity's greatest folly to think of itself so highly as to assume it can conceive of the exact nature of the origins of the universe.

I never said that I can understand it, but it doesn't mean I can't wonder. One of my views on religion is that if there is a god he can be fathomed by a mere human mind which I why I don't follow any religions.

That last part wasn't really directed at you. Just my thoughts in regards to people who claim they can / do.
Have you ever noticed that the only two options people ever even give are evolution/creationism.
Who says it has to be either one?

Well there are scientists that theorize there is no such thing as nothing since all space must be filled as a gap would create a void of nothing which would rip the world and then the universe apart.
In response to your third option question: There are those that hypothesize that you can't even prove that yesterday ever happened as the only record you can trust is your own mind and that could be created as your memories are fractured and not as whole as we think them to be; as our imagination is responsible for filling in the gaps.
