Having been gone for as long as I have, I don't know what recent MM media has been shared across the boards, so don't jump down my throat if this has been brought up before...
But I just remembered this little ditty I came across in the OCR WIP boards. It's one of the most original and interesting takes on the MM2 Wily theme I've heard in a long time.
(I'm posting the WIP 4 version, because the newest one has a lot of empty placeholder stuff)

It's very good, except that the synth gets really annoying after a couple minutes

Mmmmm was okay, I personally hate it though when people do VG remixes and have vocals, but just follow the originals main melody rather than creating a new one or a harmony.

I recommend everyone go get Mega Ran's FREE Mega Man 9 album.
He's pretty damn good. He had me sold at Grow Up/Wood Man
I tried to find a complete video of his Jewel Man but that was all I could find.

Ever since I was little, lyrical remixes are something I'd always wanted. The lyrics add such a new spin on the classic (while keeping it classic) that it's like a whole new awesome.
And however you want to argue it with your "musical theory", I'd still say that's mostly what the Megas have done. AND IT WORKED!

The Megas, Game Over, The Black Mages, Jillian Goldin, and Gackt have made much of my favorite game music using lyrics. Vocals have the capacity to ruin a mix, but then again.... so does anything. Like an annoying synth.
Oh yeah, I can't forget this tight street fighter 2 mix.

ATF: +1
That was pretty awesome.
Vocals are a double edge sword.

No i dont think you got what I meant, I like vocals in remixes, I just hate when the melody just copies what is already there rather than creating something that goes over it.
The Megas did that on very few song but in most cases their vocal parts are original melodies.

I don't see what there is to hate. If the songs are good enough to add vocals too, there's no reason to change the mix.
Remixing and arrangement is cool and all, but I don't think it's at all NECESSARY to produce an entertaining update on a classic tune.

I don't necessarily mean the remix itself. I meant your distaste for simple voice-overs of original melodies.
Granted, they can be a bit boring (especially if the lyrical content is weak), but they're not all that bad, if the source material is good to start with.

Lyrics add depth to a remix.
