Unfortunately, the save batteries for everyone's original cartridges is about to die. So unless you want to learn how to solder, this information is next to worthless.
The save system for my OG Red died within two years. I think my Brick-red gameboy destroyed games because the same thing happened to my copy of Gold.

You don't need to know how to solder at all. I've replaced the batteries in my red, blue, gold, and silver games and never once needed to solder. You just need to be able to hold the battery in place so it won't loose a connection. Solder is the best way, but tape works just as well.
Also the batteries in gold and silver games die much faster than in red and blue due to having to keep track of time.
