Item DLC in non muliplayer games I have no problem with.

Games cost a metric fuckton more to make these days than back in the nineties and they still cost roughly the same amount to buy them (counting for inflation though you could make the argument that games are cheaper to buy now than they ever have been). $60 is still a lot though, and of course I wish I were getting more for my dollar no matter how much content they decided to give me, but when it comes down to it "From Ashes" is just an extra character and a mission or two. They did the same thing with Zaeed and Kasumi from ME2 and while I can't vouch for Kasumi because I never got that, Zaeed wasn't a particularly engrossing character and kinda felt like he was just there. I would imagine that this character is going to be the same thing; may be an interesting character in his own right but his overall bearing on the story is so miniscule that you're not missing out on anything by not having him.
Not to mention there's still a bunch of time between when a game goes gold and when it actually ships, so instead of just having their developers sitting around for months at a time with their thumbs up their collective asses, they get them to work on DLC. If they get it ready for launch date, great! You don't have to wait around for more content when there's already some ready to go. Would people have rather they held it back for two months before releasing it to the public?

(B) yes, games cost less to make way back when. They also employed a hell of a lot less people.

Are you sure it was just a new copy and not a Collector's Edition copy? I can't say for sure because I had the CE and that's exactly what they're doing with From Ashes.

It was a new copy, because that's what I had.

Gamestop is run by assholes and employs assholes, or otherwise trains employees and turns them into assholes.

Game publishers and developers don't see a penny from used game sales.

Well let me put it this way, there are people out there who will preorder games to get the extras super duper cool stuff, rush to beat the game, and rush cheevos, then sell the games back for some "semi-high" dollar in store credit. That used copy is then bought by a casual person who is interested in the game. GameStop, and all other thrift game companies, have just sold 2 games and have made a decent profit on games like this. This hurts the gaming industries in a way. While GameStop is selling 1 game twice, the gaming industry has only sold that one game and are currently eating the cost of the second.
That's just part of the "Why GameStop is bad," argument.

Gamestop sucks because they never have sales. Everywhere else sucks because of trade-in pricing and limited selection.
I sell old games on craigslist now, and buy my new games on amazon.
