Generations is the first good sonic game I've played in a long while.
I know I'm going against the general opinion, but I didn't think colors was that great, it wasn't bad, but at the same time the whole thing felt kind of boring and gimmicky to me. I much prefer the daytime levels from Unleashed over colors, it's a shame that game had so few of those compared to the night time bullshit.
Generations > Daytime Unleashed > Colors >>>>> all the rest of 3D sonic

I hated Unleashed, even its daytime stages, but that's just me. Giving Sonic actual powerups was such a "no shit" move for them to take, but it took them literally 20 years to do it. The first roller coaster stage is awesome, but my favorite Colors stage is the first one in the space world. It felt like Nintendo had a hand in that game in a lot of ways, and that's a good thing.
Now if we could just get a proper Mario and Sonic game, I'd be pleased.

Hey. I still don't give much of a shit about any Sonic game. I feel like it's still a dead horse that has a lot of potential but has all of the previous flops to blame for sourness. Am I still okay with thinking Sonic 2 is flawless and is still the best? I would love to update my Sonic library but FUCK giving idiots money. It's pretty much why I haven't bought a Sonic game since the SEGA era.

So... you haven't given any of them a chance in awhile? Understandable, but Colors and Generations were both good, and that's what we're talking about. Generations is on sale on Steam for 15 bucks this weekend. If you don't want to give idiots money, don't buy any Capcom games. They're stupid douches.

Sonic 2 is my favorite, and basically the megaman 2 of the sonic series. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is also really good, adds some new mechanics and depth to the game while still feeling the same, after that it's pretty much all down hill until the recent games. I would definitely recommend Generations (which happens to be pretty cheap on steam this weekend), it's got pretty solid 2D gameplay with classic sonic, not exactly the same as the old games, but close enough for me and still a lot of fun, and Sonic Team has finally figured out how sonic should work in 3D and executes on it really well in generations. Overall it's got something in it for everybody.

@Fish: Oh trust me. Keiji quit and then they cancel Legends 3? I am forever boycotting. And I really wanted Street Fighter x Tekken.
@Jigger: Yeah I've noticed. I mean 4 was supposed to be good especially after how hard they worked on it. I could give Colors and Generations a look over.

I had a big article ranting about Capcom... They've done a lot more than just cancel MML3, but I won't get into that. Support companies when they stop being stupid and start doing smart things again! Support Sonic Team.

Sonic 4 was TERRIBLE, even ignoring the broken physics it's still a poorly designed game.
Apparently Sega has listened to feedback on episode 1, though, and they've said that episode 2 is using a new engine, so hopefully there won't be the same problems that ep 1 had. And judging by Sega's most recent releases they have two engines that would be great for episode 2. They have the hedgehog engine which is used for Generations and the more recent 3D games, and they've also acquired a fan made 'retro engine' which recreates the genesis physics perfectly and was used to rebuild sonic cd at an HD resolution in the recent XBLA port.
TL;DR I think sega has learned since sonic 4 that they can't just say they're giving fans what they want, but that they actually have to deliver on it, too.

Jay C, YOU'RE a dead horse.
@Thread
My hopes for S4:2 are so low, even with all their "talk". Even gameplay vids won't convince me they've fixed the physics. I'd need an actual demo before I'm trusting shit.
That said, the revamped SCD was the best port in the history of ports.

Man, I bought Sonic Generations about two days before it went on sale. I feel a bit unlucky about that but oh well the game is well worth it anyway.
Best Sonic game I played since ever.

I'm still not buying this. Sonic died in '94 as far as I'm concerned.

Okay well we'll be enjoying this well made and super fun game while you're over in your "sonic still sucks" corner pouting.
Except me, I guess, since I sold it after a few weeks.
It's a pretty short game you could probably even just rent it from Redbox and that'd be plenty of time.
