I hope Arkham City is as well laid out as Arkham Asylum, the first game had an almost super metroid level of progression to it the way everything would loop back on itself and you'd always see things and places you just couldn't get to yet because you didn't have the right equipment at the time. Not really sure if that will be possible to do as well in an open world city, but even if it's not, the first game had such solid combat and stealth gameplay that I'm not worried about it.

From the reviews I've seen, the "open world" doesn't seem to be an issue. It follows the same sort of linear "go here, go here, go here, get this, beat him, go here" story progression as AA. It's basically Akrham Asylum but with basically everything improved and expanded.
