I've already posted a bit, but I should probably do an intro thread anyway.

I'm living in Australia trying to become a video game writer, which I understand to be near-impossible, but I've wanted to do it forever. I don't have any particular kind of game in mind, just one that's good, I guess.

I found The Megas after listening to Crash Man's theme and being linked to Programmed to Fight.

I've lurked the forums for a while and figured I'd start posting as regularly as I can.

So, ask away.

Do you think written English should be updated to be as phonetic as possible?

Definitely. English is one of the most used languages (maybe 2nd?), so being easier to learn would be great. Maybe not as phonetic as, say, Vietnamese, but American English is certainly on the right track. "Color" instead of "colour" and all that.

Would you say any games, or creative works in particular, influenced your decision to really pursue a career as a writer? What made you decide to focus on video games as opposed to, say, trying your hand at more traditional fiction, or writing for the screen?

Weirdly, Final Fantasy 10. I felt like it had an interesting premise that just fell flat towards the middle, making it the first game I played where I was rewriting parts in my head as I went through it. Boss fights were cool though.

I've always been interested in anything with a good story and I think games are an excellent medium for them. Through controlling a character, it's almost like the events of the game happen to the player. The cool thing about games is they can have an immersive story that the player can have some control over while just being fun to play.

What publication do you dream of publishing your work in?

There isn't really have anywhere I have in mind, although working at Valve would be pretty awesome considering you get to live there. (I hope I understood this question :? )

No, but I'm curious why you did. Writing rump steak on a grocery list?

Nah I was writing about sliding down a hill. I made the connection that life is like a slippery steep hill. You can look back, look down, but you'll always be sliding down. There's paths you can follow and along each path there's dips in the ground as well as presents. You may scrape your butt on the dips and bumps or get an unnexpected gift.
So, yeah.
