You really can't get interested in the show just from the ads, honestly. There are so many disjoint story threads that just barely make sense that you can't understand any of it without watching from the very beginning.
I'm not sure I'd recommend it to a newcomer at this point...the series is long enough that it's just a big timesink, and there aren't really many answers until season 3.
