My work doesn't allow me to grow an ultra-manly full beard (but I totally could/would), but they recently amended the dress code to allow for "goatees" (or, what I just learned from Wiki can be called a Vandyke, which sounds so much more awesome).
I'm not a fan of them AT ALL, but I've been growing one out just to try it.

I can freakin' never shape mine right. They turn out too lopsided, not down my neck enough, too short... I've never gotten a goatee to work aside from maybe once. But they're pretty hard to maintain IMO. Since I'm in high school all the guys are jealous of my perfect beard. So I usually don't file it down to a goatee strictly to flaunt it.

Yes. They are a bitch to shape and maintain and I hate them, and there are almost no good reasons to have one over a full beard.
Trust me, my job allowed it, I'd be rockin' a full-on mountain man in no time.
