Part of the problem is that Pixar initially set out with a set number of film ideas from pretty much day one. Wall-E was the last one on that list, iirc.

So now they're relying heavily on sequels to try and milk that gold mine for all it's worth. Brave seems cool to me though. I'll report back after checking it out next week. I hear it's surprisingly dark.

In other news:

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER IS EVEN BETTER THAN I HAD ANY RIGHT TO HOPE FOR (and I was super hyped). HOLY FUCKING SHIT. If you like fight choreography at all or are a fan of gratuitous amounts of hyperexaggerated bad-assery, then GOD DAMN - CHECK THIS SHIT!

Also the story was astonishingly well thought out.

Pixar fans! Brave was great. Another great movie to add to their list. And for those of you wondering, Monsters University's trailer was attached so I'm sure it's live online by now.
Brave was ok. It's nothing special though.

Saw Prometheus. It was alright. Leaving the theatre I had a pretty positive outlook on it but the more I think about it the less it makes sense and starts to kinda fall apart.

Looked nice though.

I was hugely disappointed with that movie (for some reason I expected a lot more out of it than I should have).

On the one hand, it creeped me the fuck out. Weren't really any "gotcha" scare moments, but I had my hands covering my face, contorted in disgust, for a large portion of the movie, just from being creeped/grossed out. I feel like that's an admirable feat, and much more commendable than being able to catch me by surprise like most horror films try to do. As a creepy alien thriller, it does its job well enough.

But the story is full of all kinds of holes and/or unanswered questions, which range from silly to aggravating. There's bad writing, and then there's intentionally leaving me in the dark because apparently they never actually intended to address any of the lofty ideas presented in the beginning of the movie. That shit was intentional. Maybe it's to prep me for a sequel, but all it really did was make me like this one less.

Ridlet Scott has already said that he wants to make a sequel. What ever happened to people just making a movie to make a movie? Everyone now a days makes a movie to make a trilogy.

While I love trilogies (good ones), I do feel like that mentality inadvertently creates more lackluster individual films. Sad.

Way too many movies are just prep for a trilogy. One of the reasons Green Lantern flopped.

Iron Man was planned out with the intent of sequels of it's own and foreknowledge that it would be a linkup to an Avengers Movie... Which is also planned out with a few sequels of it's own. Yet each of them kinda work as stand alone. I didn't see Capt. America prior to Avengers and never had any real interest in the guy prior to seeing it. Now I see it as tied with Iron Man if not beating it.

I would go so far as to question as to why some stories need to end. Especially if they're good stories. Long Reaching Comic Book and Bound Books have proven that even without the original characters, the story itself can be a character that is worth exploring further.

All of the Avengers individual movies were created with the intention of bringing them all together for Avengers.

But they made them all stand alone beautifully.

I don't have a problem with continuing things forever. I always get sad about reboots, and whatnot, and part of the reason I liked Dark Knight so much is that every time I THOUGHT it was gonna end, it didn't.

All I'm saying is that it's sad to see individual movies suffer because they're too reliant on their sequels to stand alone. I'd love to see Comic book movies continue create their own comprehensive universes that exist between films the way Marvel's been doing, but I'd hate to see them resorting to cliffhangers and unresolved issues in order to draw us into the next film before we even have a chance to appreciate the first.

Oh yeah I agree with that. But I always go to a horror movie with the knowledge that people are going to act stupidly in them. there isn't a Zombie movie where people don't act like fodder even though your led to beleive that they couldn't possibly fall prey to that. yet they do.

Prometheus was a Horror Flick so it has to stick to the standard formula. Which is fine because the goal wasn't to be intellectual about it's premise or it's story, it was to scare and startle you. I've yet to encounter a horror film that had longevity but thought they were good when I saw them. To this day I think Event Horizon is the best sci-fi horror film outside of the original Aliens Trilogy because it did what it did so well and it followed the formula so well that I didn't mind.

It was my bad for expecting more out of Prometheus, but somehow the trailer really hooked me. I enjoy horror movies in a campy "I know this is gonna be dumb, but hopefully it'll be a fun ride" kind of way, and I did enjoy the movie in that sense, but the intellectual premise they STARTED with just had too much potential for me to forgive them for dropping it.

I wanted THAT movie instead of what I got. Oh well, I guess I'll always have Mission to Mars (which does a pretty decent job of being suspenseful/tense AND delivering a lofty idealistic story - if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it)

If we're talking about Sci-fi stuff, then how does everyone here feel about Titan A.E.? One of my favorite movies ever.

I saw it when it came out in theaters and don't remember anything about it since it was so long ago and I've only seen it once.
