I'm sure this thread will get some people pissed off, but I was watching No Right Answer and they had this topic. The two were debating if FF7 or Goldeneye was the most overrated game of all time. What's your idea of the most overrated game of all time?
Honestly I'd probably go with Goldeneye, because Duke Nukem had all that shit way before N64.

Gergus wrote: Goldeneye Goldeneye brought multiplayer FPS to the common man. I didn't know a single person growing up who was a PC gamer but nearly everyone had a Nintendo growing up. Sure, there was multiplayer SNES games and the like but at the time Goldeneye came out it was a one-of-a-kind experience to anyone who didn't realize that PC gaming was a thing that existed. Sure, there may have been other alternatives at the time and Goldeneye DEFINITELY feels dated going back to it, but man, getting three of your friends to play it with you back in '97 for some Proximity Mines only matches was one of the coolest goddamn things you could do and that's what everyone remembers it for.

Also, even though no one remembers Goldeneye for its Single Player, the fact that its missions were "Steal the CCTV footage and take a picture of the satellite" instead of just "Shoot everyone and get to the exit" was actually pretty novel for the time.

think about it! how many games before halo let you have only two weapons at a time? none that i can think of and it was a great idea because not only is it hard to choose between fifty weapons on a controlelr but also it makes you strategize by really making you think about what you need and gears of war took all these amazing fps ideas and then also started giving us cover systems!

I fail to see how either of the points you've made are a good thing. Being restricted to two weapons is just as unrealistic as carrying around a dozen, particularly when you can jump 10 feet into the air from a stand still. The only thing Gears has ever contributed to gaming was making it brown and shitty, and allowing writers to get away with stories written by prepubescent gun fanatics.

I literally feel dumber for having read this. Also Gears of War's cover system was inspired by kill.switch which was, in turn, inspired by Winback. COME ON, SON
