And actually have a kind of ranking. Now, I obviously pick MM2 above all the others, having grown up with it, but after that, I'd have to say the list goes as follows, for the most part:

Megaman 2
Megaman 9
Megaman 5
Megaman 6
Megaman 3
Megaman 10
Megaman 8
Megaman 4
Megaman 1
Megaman 7

Any thoughts? I'm thinking about going back to play through them maybe on livestream or something, but I dunno. It's a very good series, but I feel like when they go from the NES, the feel gets really weird. I always thought the demakes were stupid ideas, but as I played 7 (FUUUUUUUCK), I realized that they just feel so much better in 8-bits.

I think Megaman 5 was probably the most surprising just for how much cool shit it did. I really thought that 3-6 would just be the same generic crap, but 3, 5 and 6 all did some neat, and unique stuff. 5 really holds a special place for me because I found myself time and time again just going "oh, wow!" at stuff I'd do in the stage. Gravity Man's stage was Super Mario Galaxy 20 years before it would ever exist, there was a jetski stage, the castle that you had to SHOOT DOWN AROUND YOU, and so many other things. 9 was just so well balanced, with great weapons and level design, along with music.

MM3 was pretty cool too, but it just seemed to drag on, and the robot that took the MM2 robots power just made it go on for way too long. And anything with a "devil" in it can just straight up blow me. Hate those things.

Ahh, anyway, let me know what you think about it all.

Also, 'sup forum? It's been awhile.

I friggin love 2, if only because it's the one I can consistently beat. Never played 4-8, so can't really weigh in on those. 10 I love just because they gave me COMMander Man. It's a sweet game too, plus the ability to wreck shit with Bass is fun. However, 2 will always be my number 1.

4 is my favorite all day erry day you guys know that shit
10 is my favorite if 4 wasn't so rad because it has SO MUCH SICK SHIT IN IT HELL YES BASS HELL YES ENKER HELL FUCKING YES WILY 1

I don't understand the hate for 7 because I really like it. Most people's reason for hating it is that it feels different than the others. Really? No shit. And Castlevania 4 feels different than CV1. And Super Mario World feels different than Super Mario Bros. It's still a really fun platforming game.

8 blows however but everyone knows that

Also 9 is kind of overrated imo. The music is good but I don't think it's THAT good, and the weapons are all useful and balanced sure, but the level design can be kind of lame at points, compared to 10 which is, in my mind, way better in pretty much every category except weapons. Only weapon worth using in 10 is T. Blade. But apart from that it's hells of more fun.

also 3 sucks everyone who likes it sucks go to hell youre all bithces

Bass is pretty ridiculous in 10. I don't even know why they added difficulties, because playing with Protoman is so hard, and playing with Bass is so easy. Seriously, he gets so many advantages over the other two, and his disadvantages are so insignificant. I just found myself laughing, after having beaten the first nine games to just stand on a ledge and shoot down at a boss, or having a boss jump up into the air above me and just shooting them right up the butt.

Maybe I'll have to go back and play 4, I just don't remember it doing anything new other than the charge shot, and I felt like it was a pretty forgettable experience. I'll have to replay it to see what you mean. Enker is in it? He's one of the Megaman killers, right? I thought they were only in the Game Boy games and 10. Shows how much I know.

7 would be fine if it felt like it controlled well at all. I liked 8, a lot, actually (though some of this like may be attributed to the fact that it wasn't 7) and it just pissed me off one too many times. I suppose that it was just hard, but too often it felt like I wasn't getting killed due to my inability to play the game, it was just the game being cheap, and Megaman's gigantic, slow moving sprite getting in the way of absolutely everything. Getting Protoman's shield and the little shooty-fist were pretty cool, but 6 did the suits which were way too awesome, and Protoman's shield didn't let you slide so fuck that.

Not to mention the final boss was the most bullshit thing in any Megaman game ever, and he wasn't even a devil. HE MIGHT AS WELL HAVE BEEN A DEVIL FOR ALL THE HELL HE RAINED DOWN

Seriously, I looked up FAQs and it was like "okay so you're gonna get hit, it's really hard to dodge." I looked up a video of someone doing it and they just got hit about every turn, too. I had to use four E tanks and an M tank or whatever on it the second time I fought it, and I beat it with ONE BAR OF HEALTH. It was a stained victory.

I liked 8 for at least trying to be a little different. 7 was trying to mimic the NES Megaman game style, but by changing the movement of the character, on such a basic level, it makes it play completely different. I felt like 8 realized that and tried to do its own thing, to some success. I know there were some real bullshit parts, but the powers in 8 were pretty neat, and I really like the Mega Ball.

I felt like 10 was kind of a disappointment compared to 9, but hey that's just me. The most creative stage I think I saw in 10 was probably the elevator thing that you had to move to not die on, whereas in 9, at the same time (Wily Castle) you were floating up in that one room, having to shoot to move to the other side to do the same thing, which was way cooler. 10 didn't have the catchiest music, and to me, the bosses felt like the bosses from 4-8, just kind of bland, not very memorable. I felt like 9's bosses were more like 2's, and the music as well. Galaxy Man probably has my favorite song in the whole series.

But if you're playing as Bass, 10 is hilariously fun.

No no, Enker isn't in 4. I was talking about 10. 10 has a lot of sick shit in it.

And 4 might not be the most innovative game in the series but it's the most solid. Weapons are balanced, Rush isn't abusable (which is probably one of the reasons so many people don't like it) and the bosses are all legitimately tough without their weaknesses, unlike 2 and 3. Ever tried to beat Pharaoh Man without Flash Stopper? Yeah it's pretty tricky. It also had some bombin' fucking music. Go listen to Pharaoh, Dust, Skull, and Cossack 2. You will not be disappointed.

In regards to 10, I think half the robot masters' themes are subpar at a first listen, but they do grow on you. Guys like Chill, Blade, and Commando's music seem lame at first but give them a few extra listens. But the other half of the RMs, guys like Solar, Strike, and Nitro... FUCK. What the hell happened? So ballin'. And then there's everything after the RMs, like all five Wily stages (awesome) and the Special stages (awesome). Hell, this is just me talking about the music.

The levels themselves, unless I'm forgetting something as I haven't played in awhile, don't have many things that are as "WHOA" as the gravity thing from MM9 Wily 3, sure. But the levels are just designed better, to me. Of particular note is Wily 1. Probably my favorite stage (and track!) in any Mega Man game PERIOD. It's an experience.

I guess it just didn't feel like 4 did anything for me. I will have to go back and give it another shot, that's for sure, with all of the love you're sending its way. The interesting thing about the bosses in the series is that you never know how they'll be until you face them. Some are so much easier than others, and some are just so hard to get the hang of. I remember 4 having some neat RM weaknesses that I kind of liked, and the music wasn't bad, but it just didn't do anything for me to make it stand out. Then I played 5, and maybe I'm just a sucker for gimmicks, but 5 overshadowed 4 completely. The castle that you shoot down around you was one of my favorite things in any Megaman game.

10 has decent music, I don't disagree about that, and some of the tunes stuck with me after I played the stage ten times with Protoman, but I think I prefer 2's music, and then 9's. Then maybe 3 and 10's. It'd be interesting to see how they ranked gameplay-wise for each of us separately from their music, though the music really does help influence how much you like it. If it didn't, I probably never would have finished, say, Ninja Gaiden.

I felt like 9 had more memorable bosses too, but that could be that I have beaten it twice, whereas most of the others I've only beaten once. The giant three part robot shark, the double devils and the room with the slowly moving enemies. 10 was pretty good too, but I just enjoyed 9 more, maybe because it felt fresh again. 9 was to 2 for me as 10 was to 3. I really hope they don't release one a year or anything, because it just kind of felt like they were already beginning to run out of innovation. It's a really solid series as a whole though, one of the best on the NES, or any other console, which is surprising, for how often they came out for how long.

Considering getting the X Collection too, but I'm unsure. I really did detest 7.

Yeah, but it would be better than buying them all separately.
Weapons Archive was pretty neat, I gotta admit, and it was neat seeing the bosses from 7 and 8 in 8-bit, but Doc Robot did it better, I think, even if he was too powerful. The crab puncher was neat, and all devils can just go to hell.

I have to disagree with you there. Doc Robot made you go through 4 extra levels that were just levels you'd done before with only slight changes and all the bosses were from one game, as opposed to Weapons Archive, which all took place in one level (a Wily level) and had representatives from each game in the series. Considering how big of a continuity sperglord I am in regards to things with long running stories, that was awesome for me. Plus switching between 3 different Weapons per fight, as opposed to just fighting one at a time is a lot less tedious.

Very true. I probably like weapons archive more as well. Doc Robot was way too hard, and going through destroyed versions of the stages really made me begin to detest MM3, on top of that. Making Quickman twice as big, and not having a Flash Stopper for him? Ehhh.

I'm the exact opposite, I loved going through the changed versions of the 4 levels. MM3 is the one I played most as a kid, so that might have a lot to do with it, but back when I was a kid my mind was blown after I beat the 8 robot masters and then had to go back through destroyed versions of the stages only to meet up with some dude with the MM2 boss powers twice in each level.

8 is my favorite, the voice acting is so superb. #trolling. In all honesty a couple of the Robot Masters were cool...I liked Tengu Man atleast.

My favorite is most likely 3, I played it as a kid. I didn't play 2 until I was like 16, but Quickmans Stage alone is one of the more memorable gaming moments stuck in my head.

I was more of an X fan...(please don't shun.)

Play any (or all) of the Mega Man games without the music/sound on. You won't like it.
