I never finished XI either! Hell, I got to level 25 and just STOPPED.

13's final boss and ending are both bullshit and suck so it's not like it's a huge priority.

I haven't bothered with a FF game in years...they've gotten way too goofy anime for me.

They're not even goofy though. They take themselves so fucking seriously. I enjoyed FFX-2 because it was campy fun with no super world-ending consequences and everyone acting cheerful to hide their crippling depression for 80% of the game like FFX.

I dunno, I always saw IX, X, and XII like that, a lot of their characters just seemed cardboard to me. Maybe it was just their designs. I loved the more techno-magic worlds (yes, like VII and VIII, but also V...I think it was V, anyway)...and the throwback XI's. I wish it would be revisited in another game...

The character designs have always been "goofy" but ever since 7, the stories have always been serious. There's comedic moments sure, but Cloud and Squall are brooding teenagers, Tidus was the only cheerful person in a group of sadsacks who didn't want to tell him that "No, everything is not going to be alright.", and everything about 13 just screams "THIS IS SERIOUS, DEEP, AND MEANINGFUL. TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY."
I know nothing about 9. I enjoyed 12 enough to take the seriousness at face value and give it its due credit. I thought the lack of a stupid sappy romance plot was a DEFINITE step in the right direction. It instead focused on the world, its leaders, its politics, and a medieval drama about a princess whose husband and father were both killed on the same night so she goes into hiding for two years in order to fight back against the bad guy. It didn't give me the same bad taste in my mouth as 13.
Final Fantasy 13 wrote: "WE'RE BRANDED AS TRAITORS BUT WE'RE REALLY THE GOOD GUYS AND WE GOTTA SAAAAAVE THE WOOOOORLD, ALSO EVERYTHING IS SUPER DRAMATIC AND HERE'S SOME SAPPY MUSIC PLAYING DURING A FLASHBACK ALSO MY SISTER IS BASICALLY DEAD AND I HATE HER BOYFRIEND AND MY SON IS BASICALLY DEAD AND I DESTROYED THE WORLD 200 YEARS AGO AND MY MOM DIED AND I HATE MY FATHER AND-"
And then there's FFX-2 which is "We saved the world and now I guess we can just chill out and go treasure hunting and have some fun and stuff. Oh hey there's a bad guy with a big cannon let's stop him."

I never played FFX-2, sadly. I don't even know why I didn't at least try it.

I must say, the dress sphere system sounds awesome from what I've heard.
I LOVE FF IX. Second best FF after VI in my opinion.
In IX it's almost like they're taking the piss with the character designs enough to balance the semi serious story. All the characters are stereotypical and hilarious. Plus Steiner is one of the best portrayed gays in video gaming.

Yeah I think JRPG's are what get me too, like lost odyssey, FF-10, 12, pretty much anything from SquarEnix. Oh and MW3 and Dark Souls. I just stop playing and then when I come back to it, I'm so confused as to where I was in the story and how the controls work. It sucks.

As soon as I saw the title I was thinking Xenogears. I've been playing that game many years but I've never beaten it, which is odd for me because I always try to find time to beat all my games.
Hell, I've beaten the first 3 Dragon Quest games (Y'know, the ones where you have to grind 40 hours to even stand a slight chance against the final dungeons) and I still never manage to beat Xenogears. I'm not sure what it is about that game, I guess I just lose interest in it after a while.
Also, I agree 50% with Tuberz. Final Fantasy 9 is my favorite FF game, with FF6 close behind.
