I think, if given enough development time, it could have been amazing. I also really liked the idea of zero having to fight an X who had become evil, like what was supposed to happen in the megaman zero games. Here is that quote from ign: It was intended to be part of a trilogy “that would culminate in a third game in which the player would assume control of Zero, forced to destroy a Mega Man who had grown incredibly powerful and infinitely intelligent over the course of two games.” Now that sounds badass.

I'm a software developer. Never done a video game, I suck with graphics and would have to learn, but anyone wanna start up a fan project to see something similar come to fruition?
Hell, we could probably use the Half Life Engine - then we'd just need skins and events...

That sounds like a great idea. The only problem is I have no programming knowledge, so it would have to be someone else to help you. A bunch of comments on this are saying that this game would've just ruined megaman even more. I disagree, they said it was taking away megaman's soul, but I think it was taking the idea of megaman and infusing it with a new soul while keeping the old soul intact.

I actually had that reaction. When I saw it I was all "No, fuck this, get your Halo out of Megaman." Then I heard the story and continued rolling my eyes, saying something along the lines of "A dark and gritty reboot of Megaman? Seriously? They're really pushing it. No one could do that."
I was actually four tracks into the Protomen on the bus ride this morning before I realized what a dickhead I was being. Now I think it could have worked, kinda.

I hold no illusion that it would've been the greatest thing ever to happen ever. I just think that it was taking an already existing series and doing something new with it. This probably would've been the biggest chance that Capcom ever took with something. It may not have been the best thing there ever was, but I'm sure it would've been fun as hell.

I would've dug this just for my love of alternate takes on things - and the Protomen sect of the fandom would've eat something like this up like candy.

I'd love to see a first person fight against the badass scythe wielding Sigma.

Wasn't Mega Man Legends a TPS?
Going FPS worked for Metroid - it could work for Mega Man.

It seems fast paced. Metroid Prime was slower and methodical. So who knows if it applies. But then again MM has always been faster pace than Metroid.

I don't know that that's necessarily true. Super Metroid takes me about twice as long as, say, Mega Man 2 - but the game is huge and I frequently feel fast-paced, especially once you pick up the speed booster and start running through walls. One of these days I'll buy a better USB controller and record a speed run. My current one sucks for anything that uses the D-Pad - pressing left or right almost always presses up or down also so you can't aim for shit with Samus
