I just MGS3 a week ago on PS3 as well. It's my 2nd favorite game in the series (Right after MGS1), and man was it awesome to finally play it again (My PS2 disc scratched the last time I tried to play it before getting the PS3 collection).

But there is one thing I wonder about.

What is it with the number 3 and prequels? Metal Gear Solid 3 is a prequel, Castlevania 3 is a prequel, Dragon Quest 3 is a prequel, etc.

I've gotta stop staying up til 5 am playing the ME3 demo. I'm tiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrreedddd D:

Every time I boot up the multiplayer, my friend and I have played for about 7 hours straight. Shit's hard with only two people.

Wordfeud with my friends and Jay C. Look me up at moosek51, and either of us might win. I'm not that great.

ME2 just to get a Romance with Ashley by not fucking any of the characters in this one. Thanks Brian for pointing out the picture being down if you cheat. I'm glad they had a dlc that's an interactive comic that takes you to the first game and lets you choose who you fell in love with, who died, if you killed the Rachni, if you saved the Council and if you picked Anderson or Udina for ambassador. Saved me a lot of time.

Ashley bugged the shit out of me from the moment she showed up and never even came close to redeeming herself. I killed her without a second thought.

That DLC was such a great idea though. I wonder if they'll do something similar for 3.

I killed Kaidan because he was so fucking boring I'd rather have the space racist alive instead of him. At least Ashley's negative character traits could cause some kind of future tension between characters, leading to some interesting developments later in the story. I know that won't happen and it'll be the same regardless of which one you killed, but fuck it. Kaidan was SO BORING.

I'd take boring over obnoxious any day.

I also didn't think he was that boring. Kind of generic, compared to a lot of the other characters, but I was at least interested in hearing what he had to say, whereas with Ashely, I could not get ever her to shut the fuck up fast enough. I also think Kaidan had plenty of controversial/negative traits as well, so I can see him causing tension with other characters just as easily.

I killed off Ashley because it just made more SENSE. I had Kaiden protect the bomb because he knew what he was doing with it then sent Ashley off on the frontlines because she's a damn soldier. When both of them were in trouble, the call was easy-- I should probably go check up on that bomb gotta have it go off, after all. Ashley's a soldier so I'm pretty sure she knew her time would come at some point or another.

So many people say this. WHY!? Why the fuck would you have a boring character in your story with nothing interesting to say or add to the narrative or even just little one-off lines that don't matter instead of a character you don't like that can add conflict with the characters you DO like? A story without some type of conflict isn't a story worth telling unless it's a fucking bedtime story for a 3 year old.

Let me make it perfectly clear: I do not like Ashley. I think she's a shitty, boring character. JUST LIKE KAIDAN. They are both boring. If I could have chosen to kill off both of them, I would have done so. But I had to choose one. I had to pick between the boring guy with headaches and the VERY SLIGHTLY less boring space racist (who isn't even that severe of a racist, she's so fucking tame compared to other space racists in the series). I chose to keep the space racist alive, because she can add something to the narrative by virtue of having some kind of noticeable personality trait, whether it be positive or negative. What will Kaidan do in ME3? Seriously. What will he do? Fucking nothing I'm willing to bet. And you know what? Ashley's probably going to do the same god damn thing: nothing. But when I'm experiencing this vast, Star Wars-esque universe across a trilogy of cool games with lots of backstory and character development, I get engrossed in it, and I want it to be as interesting as possible. By choosing the character whose personality traits even just have the potential to cause some kind of conflict with Shepard or the rest of Shepard's squad down the line, it makes for a more interesting story.

Kaidan and Ashley are both shitty characters. Ashley's just a little less boring.

I agree with this so hard. Kaiden and Ashley are just like Jacob and Miranda- shitty and boring.

The weakest, most poorly written characters in the ME universe are without exception the human characters.

I see what you're saying, JT. And I agree that her space-racism may ultimately lead to an interesting conflict.

But to answer your original question, I choose boredom over annoyance because I'd rather sit in silence than have someone poking me with a stick. I hated her and wanted her dead, whereas Kaidan just didn't bother me and I enjoyed his dialogue more. Killing her was like scratching an itch. I agree that they're BOTH boring, but in my case, I found Kaidan less so, at least in terms of conversation. Whether he will influence ME3 in an interesting way, I can't really say. After all, most of the carry-over noticeable consequences in ME2 were pretty insignificant... I'm just hoping your previous choices actually play a real part AT ALL this time around.

If you left him alive though, when you meet him in ME2 he was a pretty big asshole to you about the Cerberus thing, where every other character was pretty quick to forgive you (even if you were Renegade). That interaction makes me think that he has some potential to make things interesting. Hell, maybe his head will explode.

Also, totally agreed with Gergus. Humans are lame.

Ashley's and Kaiden's reactions in ME2 are basically carbon copies.

That just reinforces my hopes that ME3 does something with all these "important choices" we've been making, since ME2 certainly didn't.
