I still don't understand why it's not coming out as DLC and a disc release similar to Arcade Edition.
All the changes and content could be downloaded from the marketplace in a big free 'Ultimate Compatibility' file, and then sell the characters for something like 3 for $10 as well. That just seems to make much more sense, fans who bought the original release can add onto their game if they want, and people who skipped out on MvC3 can jump straight into UMvC3 with the new disc release.

Arcade Edition was just 4 characters (two Shotos, Evil Ryu and Eviller Akuma, and the twins who are mostly identical in moveset). UMvC is 12 completely new characters, an entire new interface/UI, new dialogue and music, new stages, in addition to not only balance changes but adjusting the core gameplay mechanics like X-Factor.
I'm sure they could figure out some complicated way to set it all up as DLC in bits and pieces or something, but it's just a million times simpler to release it on disc. Honestly, I have zero problems with it not being DLC at this point. The only thing I was upset about was how soon it's coming out after vanilla but I'm over that now. I've sold vanilla and am hype as shit on Ultimate.

That's why I'm saying they release a 'compatibility pack' type thing so you wouldn't run into problems with people not having matching DLC packs. Burnout Paradise added huge updates that way adding new cars, modes, interface items and even motorcycles.
There'd be a 1 or 2gb file with all the characters and updates that would be free to download and allow you to play online with the tweaks, but the characters would be locked to you until you buy them from the marketplace.

I heard that the reason they did that was because of the events that occurred in Japan: tsunami and whatnot. _________________

I meant "buffed" as in he doesn't suck as much in UMvC as he did in Vanilla.
