I honestly don't like Boomer Kuwanger.
Sure, he was great back in the day for the whole "what the fuck is a Kuwanger" discussion (SPOILER ALERT: He's a beetle.), but I don't care for his design and he's irritating to fight.

Crescent Grizzly would be awesome if he wasn't such a wuss. He has a great design, a good name in both forms [I always liked Grizzly Slash], and a decent weapon, but the fight against him is one of the easiest in the entire series.

It does take something away, though. It's hard for me to really think a Maverick is awesome if he doesn't put up a fight, which is why I didn't post Neon Tiger or Crush Crawfish.

That's the only changed name in X5 I like because it actually fits; he's a bear, therefore he slashes. The others are all terrible, so I prefer their (much better) original names.
What the fuck kind of name is Mattrex? Especially in place of one as cool as BURN DINOREX.

Duff MchWhalen is easily the best name in the entire series.
Izzy Glow and Magma Dragoon are also superior. What the fuck kind of name is Magmard? Sounds like the Maverick equivalent of Millhouse.

I like Guns n Roses. But really, changing the boss names to band members for absolutely no reason is just dumb.
Duff McWhalen is awesomely bad. But it's still dumb.

Was it a dumb REASON to change the names? Absolutely.
But I still think we got the better end of the stick on at least a couple of the names. Magmard is absolutely retarded, and what the hell is a "Makkoiin"?
