I'm pretty excited about Left 4 Dead 2, but not everyone is. I thought the first game was kind of bland, and the commentary is some of the most pretentious bull shit I've ever heard. The argument is that Valve is releasing it only a year after the first game which means that it won't be as polished. But the time they spend on a game doesn't really show. They spent a long time on Episode 2 and it was great, it just wasn't worth the wait.
My opinion is; I'll buy it, play the hell out of it, and wait for Episode 3.

They must make Portal 2 first.

Left 4 Dead is an okay game, but actually pretty bland and repetitive for a full-price Valve game. Think about that for a second -- it was the same price as the Orange Box, and even for those of you who prefer L4D to TF2, do you really think it's worth as much to you as TF2 + Portal + HL2 EP3?
Buying L4D already felt like a huge ripoff for me, but I still play it now and then. The thought of buying a full-priced (admittedly, speculation there) sequel so soon after release is maddening, I'm not touching that with a 10-foot pole.

I know a few people who test for Valve (a friend's uncle and co.) and they say that Valve is a pretty shitty place to work. They make decent money, but for very long hours. They tell me things that I've had nightmare's about; 18 hour shifts, asshole managers, overtime pay cut in half. They say that the lead designers just have this sense of entitlement over the fact that they work for Valve.

I'll be getting the game, though probably not when it first comes out.

I think it's hilarious that people are complaining that their getting a sequel to something they enjoy. :/

I have no idea why there is a "boycott." I've had waay more fun with L4D than I have with the majority of games, and the quality of the experience was well worth the original price. The idea that they are being "greedy" by putting out a full priced sequel that has more content and is likely superior to the already impressive original is laughable, especially given that we wont have to wait for the sequel for very long and that they are working to integrate the games for people who purchased both.
Orange Box has always been an anomaly price-wise. Just because they give you an incredible deal on a bundle once does not mean that they have to henceforth produce such lavish deals for the same price. Given Valve's stretched release schedule, they couldn't afford to make deals like that all the time.

Well, I never got around to buying the first one. My friend had it, I just played his. So, the whole boycotting thing doesn't apply to me and I just find hilarious. Though, I'm sadden at the lack of Bill.

I wouldn't really call a sequel more content for a game I liked, I'd call more content for the game like extra campaigns and more survival levels more content.

I don't see what's so hard to understand about this. If Valve was releasing a content pack, that would be one thing...the original L4D was incredibly short, and I think most of us were hoping Valve would continue to support it in the same way that they have for TF2 owners.
Instead, we get an all new game that's basically the same thing with a few minor additions. It's like if Valve had released all of the class updates in a brand new game called TF3 and abandoned TF2 entirely. I'll admit, it's their prerogative to do that, but I certainly wouldn't be buying TF3, as I'd be basically buying the same game twice.
Boycott isn't quite the right word though...I'm not buying it, because it's a scam to be getting such a lackluster sequel for (presumably) full price, but I'm not saying no one should get the game, especially if they didn't own the first one.

Are the levels going to be different? You guys are making it sound like everything is the same with some minor additions.

Gamers have been spoiled by valve.
"WHHHHHHHHHHA I WANT MORE CONTENT FOR A GAME I ALREADY GOT... AND I WANT IT FOR FREE OR AT LEAST PRACTICALLY FREE WHHAAA!"
