Mine was Spelunker, that game where green dildos allow you to breathe in caves, bat shit kills you if you touch it, and of course, the reason everyone remembers it- the main character was a fucking weakling. Falling a few centimeters would kill that wimp- before he hit the ground. Honestly, I'm surprised that he didn't die from getting off his bed. Here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qluQqCthL44Needless to say, I hated that goddamn game in 1987, and I still hate that game now in 2012. My 2nd game (Which was also my first good game) was Megaman, which at first I didn't want to play because of the retardedly bad boxart, but ended up inserting into my NES one day. It was really hard but... it was actually fair challenge most of the time, unlike Spelunker which is just hard for the sake of being difficult. To his day I have that cartridge and pop it in my NES often.

Super Mario Bros. When I was about three. Beat it. Pretty much have never beat it since.

The first Donkey Kong on the gameboy. It's based on the arcade Donkey Kong and it's probably my favorite puzzle-platformer to date, with Portal being a close second. I got it when I was five as a Christmas gift.
The first game that got me hooked on videogames as a hobby was the Sonic & Knuckles Collection for PC. This was for my eighth birtday.

My uncle owned an Atari with a lot of games, but the first one I played was Adventure! Just look at that boxart! Just look at it!
It was so much fun and being a little kid I had such an active imagination it made the game even more fun trying to figure out what all the shapes where and how much of an "Adventure" the game was!

Super Mario Bros. I played it when I was 3 with the controller upsidedown. I think I was better at that game when I was 5 with an upsidedown controller than I am now. I played games with the controller upside down until the Playstation came out *laughs*

It was so much fun and being a little kid I had such an active imagination it made the game even more fun trying to figure out what all the shapes where and how much of an "Adventure" the game was! Dude that game is awesome! I love that game so much, I even made a parody of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdKrPCumX5sAlso, did you know that game features the first easter egg in video game history? Here's the Wikipedia paragraph: Inside the black castle catacombs (on difficulty level 2 or 3), embedded in the south wall of a sealed chamber (accessible only with the bridge), is an "invisible" 1-pixel object referred to as the gray dot.[11] One must "bounce" the player cursor along the bottom wall to "grab" the dot. The dot is not actually invisible, but simply the same color as the wall and is easily seen when placed in a catacombs passage or over a normal wall. The dot is not attracted to the magnet, unlike most other objects in Adventure. Bringing this dot to the east end of the corridor below the golden castle while other differently colored objects are present causes the wall object to also become 'invisible', allowing the player to pass into a room displaying the words "Created by Warren Robinett".
