A friend of mine and I have been discussing this issue in great depth lately. He recently came up with the theory that, if 'Continue' does take place at the end of the game, that it's Protoman singing to Mega Man as he carries him out of the wreckage of Wily's castle.
Seemed sound to me so I thought I'd share it with everyone.

I agree with Helios on everything except for the explosion. I agree that none of us know exactly what it is, but during the listening party, they kind of made it clear that it is an actual event occurring and not just symbolic.

Well, I think that would be a nice theory, other than the fact that we're only half way through the game... not at the ending yet. The ending will be in the Proto Whistle song, probably.

Am I the only person who heard during the listening party that the two albums take place at the same time? As in two separate stories that run alongside each other? If that's the case then the end of the game is Continue? on Blue and whatever the last song on Red is.

I didn't catch that, nor apparently the time where they implied that the explosion was explicitly something important. I recall that they said Gamma Unchained represented a particularly important turning point in the album, but that was all I remember them saying about it.
I thought that they wanted to keep the story very open to interpretation.
In any case I certainly like the idea of Red picking up where Blue left off, with Mega Man having much left to do after "choosing to continue". I really don't think Continue represents the end of the story at all... in fact it is just the end of scene one. It wouldn't make sense for it to be the end. I don't think the megas would 'skip the big battle' again, since we're pretty sure they'll be doing Wily 5-6 and a Boss Battle theme. And, of course, Continue means that more is to come, and it certainly doesn't feel like a post battle ending theme.
I suppose that if the Megas were being particularly creative and making their own canon, then we might have simultanious events with Proto Man doing things in Red album whilst Mega Man does his battles in Blue. And the Megas may have skipped to the end in this album and fill in the blanks with Red.
But like I said, I don't recall them saying that the albums were simultanious, and I personaly think Continue is all about setting the stage for Mega Man still having to do the 'final battle'

Does that mean Mega Man only fights four robot masters? That seems wrong.

No. Mega Man would fight all 8 Robot Masters. You know what. I'm going to listen to the livestream again tomorrow. Also the album art helps explain a few things.

I think Continue is about Megaman choosing to continue as in even though he said in One Last Time that this will be the last time that he saves the world, "this will all happen again" and he will have to step up and save the world again and again. I think at this point he has already fought with Wily and realized that Wily's not dead, or if Megas cannon differs, maybe Megaman specifically chooses not to kill Wily or something.

Jay C wrote: Continue?: See Lamentations of a War Machine Well, Lamentations has more of a closing feel to it. Continue feels more like a halfway point, especially in the lyrics. There's something about it that gives a sense of closure, but not enough for it to properly be the end.

Oh, certainly the two albums merge together into one cohesive whole. But depending on wording, that can mean "fit together as a storyline; first half plus second half" or "simultanious" I didn't have time to listen to the livestream last night, but that is on my plans for sometime unless of course Jay C finds the tidbit he was focused on first. It'd still probably be good to listen to post album theorizing for me

I took that to mean that they were simultaneous or at least going on at around the same time, but i don't know.

Well with the theory I'm backing, being my friend's on Protoman, its certainly possible that 'Continue' fits snuggly before the ending songs of the second album. I'm sure they plan on doing a track for the Whistle Concert and End Credits so it would fit in right before those tracks. And Protoman would know that mores to come cause I'm sure he noticed Wily escaping while Mega Man (the player) doesn't and thinks he's dead.
And with the explosion being Wily's Castle, it works. My friend had a theory that Light was singing his song while like watching a moniter or something of Mega going through Wily's castle or at least seeing the castle explose in the distance.
