Continue
You turn and see them in the sand Your steps behind you and your hands Are worn They’re tired and they’re worn
Footprints as far as you can see This is who you are, you’ll always be The One The one to fare the storm
If it was up to you and you Knew that you would lose If it was up to you I know You’d always choose To continue
You know this happened all before You’ve seen what comes and what’s in store And you know It will all happen again
The fear was only momentary But your role was never temporary You know This was never meant to end
If it was up to you and you Knew that you would lose If it was up to you I know You’d always choose To continue…

Nobody has been posting on most of these threads so I guess I'll break the ice on this one.
I don't understand this song at all. At first it seems to be directed at Megaman, then the line "if it was up to you and you" makes it sound like its aimed at two people, and then the line "if it was up to you, you would always choose to continue" makes it sound like its aimed at one person again. What do you guys think?

I made mention on the other thread, I think Roll is singing Continue. She sees the destruction that's going on, all he'll breaking loose. Dr Wily stealing Gamma. Protoman on the rampage. And I seriously think Dr Light got hurt at the end of Watch You Die. And here's her brother marching off to what will probably be his death. And yet he's continuing on.
Whether its because it's just artistic wording and flow to match the song or (my opinion) Roll is slightly stuttering with the emotion of what's going on, she's saying to Mega and only to Mega "If it was up to you, and you... You know that you would lose..." like she's getting choked up at the notion he would still walk off to his death. She's terrified for him, but still hopeful that he would be the one to fare the storm. It's just who her brother is.
One thing about the lyrics Helios posted... I can't hear it as "your hands of war," I hear it as "your hands are worn, they're tired and they're worn." Or possibly warm, maybe hot with plasma blaster-y death.

Seconding the roll theory, it makes a lot of sense.

Totally Protoman singing to Dr. Wily. Or at least someone singing to Dr. Wily.
LOOK AT THESE LYRICS:
If it was up to you and you You knew that you would lose (Wily always looses) If it was up to you I know You'd always chose to continue (Wily always comes back)

I just can't abide in the idea it's to Wily, there's just too much sorrowful love with a faint glimmer of hope in this song. Protoman has too much rage, Light is pissed too, Mega is feeling lost and distraught, Wily at this point is winning! Why would he need that vote of confidence that the singer knows he would continue in the face of losing odds, especially when he's winning?

What about what's going through Rush's head. Could be a chance this is it.

I think in the beginning it says his hands are worn both times. I'm just not hearing 'of war' in there and I'm not sure what that would even be saying.

I'd originally thought it was "your hands are warm" but I thought that wouldn't make sense because robots.

I'm not sure if it's Roll, but I don't think this is to Wily.
Probably doesn't give any sort of fucks about whether anyone continues, and who else would sing to Wily?
I kind of like the idea that MegaMan has broken down and is sort of talking to himself Taxi Driver style. Sort of saying "you always continue, and always will, but is it up to me at all."
Granted, that's not it..just fun to think of.

I'm sure its directed at Mega Man. But I have a feeling that it's either Protoman singing to his long lost brother considering the rumor that the song is supposed to correlate with the end of the game. Alas, I feel that it might be The Megas addressing Mega Man as the player of the game.
I mentioned the latter theory in the old thread citting the song 'Lamentations of a War Machine' in how the Megas have Mega Man address the audience with the classic line "Thanks for Playing". So it definitily wouldn't be the first time The Megas have used that perspective. That maybe its the player contemplating whether or not that should press start on the 'Continue' option and saying that if it was up to Mega Man he would always choose to continue.

I really like this idea. It sounds plausible. "Your hands are warm, They're tired and they're worn" is what I hear. (Edit: According to the new lyrics page it's worn and worn) This would make sense because after playing for this long your hands will get tired, warm and eventually worn. Supporting this general theory is the "You know this happened all before You've seen what comes and what's in store And you know it will all happen again" line. It's only a game. This will all happen again whether the player continues or not. But why would the player say "If it was up to you and you-- you knew that you would lose" to Megaman? EDIT: Oh derp. Ignore the last line. It's cause Megaman would continue even if he were to lose.
